At a crossroad of worlds and as a playground of bygone empires, Sarajevo has seen it all. And it shows. It is a unique, exciting and surprising city, one of the most stunning capitals in Europe. It is a city of contrasts – it is as upbeat and fresh as it is historically heavy and full of nostalgia.
The Balkan Peninsula is rapidly moving up the list of attractive destinations. And Bosnia and Herzegovina has become a unique destination for corporate team trips and incentive programs.
…Welcome to Sarajevo!
Sarajevo is a hidden treasure in South-Eastern Europe, easily reached and a rising star in the world of incentive travel and teambuilding.
It is one of the most historically interesting and varied cities in Europe. You can go skiing on an Olympic mountain or even rafting, all within an hours of the vibrant city centre.
“The city offers great historical wealth. With its rivers and mountains, it is considered the coming Easter European center for adventures.” (The Telegraph, February, 2014)
Experience Roman, Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Bauhaus, Brutalist and Modern architectures, seamlessly melting into each other. Sarajevo offers great hotels, quirky cafes and local bodegas, restaurants for every taste, modern shopping possibilities and diverse cultural activities.
In the evening, the bustle of Sarajevo moves to pubs, nightclubs and a wide selection of alternative venues.
“One of the legacies of spending four centuries under the Ottomans is the modern-day emphasis on drinking coffee for hours on end with friends. Walk around the streets in Bosnia, and you’ll see cafés bursting at the seams. Students, office workers, police officers and everyone else in between will nurse a small coffee for an incredible amount of time while they catch up with each other.” (Culture Trip, Sam Bedford, November 30, 2017)
Bosnians are unpretentious, down to earth and enjoy a bit of irony with their humor. Informal and casual, they treasure freedom of spirit and discourage rigid rules. They are hospitable, generous and welcome visitors with open hearts, minds and arms.
“By nature, Bosnians are very sociable and are close to neighbours, colleagues and the people in their lives. Combine this with an intrinsic curiosity and people will be chatting with you in no time at all. If you’re in tourist areas, expect people to ask where you’re from. When you get out of the cities, villagers will be helpful and accommodating.” (Culture Trip, Sam Bedford, November 30, 2017)
Traditional Bosnian food often consists of meat and a tasty salad on the side. Meals are plentiful and delicious. The meat is often organic and of extraordinary quality, slow-cooked and seasoned with local spices. This is the region where you can try dishes like bosanski lonac, ćevapi, begova čorba, burek, and klepe. And if you are a vegetarian, there are great options, too.
A 2011 World Health Organization (WHO) report stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina is in a good place when it comes to food safety, compared to other countries in the region
